Shreyas Iyer Shines as BCCI Presents ‘Dressing Room Medal’ in Dharamsala After ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Match”

In a remarkable turn of events, the star middle-order batsman of Team India, Shreyas Iyer, received a unique honor in an extravagant celebration on Sunday. Following a thrilling victory over New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match, the Indian team showcased extraordinary fielding skills, despite dropping three catches. However, it was Shreyas Iyer’s exceptional catch that stole the spotlight.

After this spectacular catch, Mohammed Siraj signaled to T. Dilip, the fielding coach, suggesting that the accolade should go to Shreyas Iyer. In a pioneering move, Dilip organized a special presentation. He instructed everyone to leave the dressing room and return to the field. There, they witnessed a drone approaching with Shreyas Iyer’s photo frame. The team was left in awe, and Ravindra Jadeja awarded Iyer, while Kuldeep Yadav ensured Iyer proudly displayed his photo frame.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced a new concept of the ‘Dressing Room Medal’ for the team’s top fielders during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches. Prior recipients of this award included Virat Kohli and players like Ravindra Jadeja.

After India’s victory over New Zealand at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, it was Shreyas Iyer’s turn to receive this prestigious award. The announcement for the award took place with the usage of a “Spider Cam.” The entire team was asked to come out for the award announcement since the “Spider Cam” veered towards the boundary.

Shreyas Iyer had shown exceptional prowess with the bat against New Zealand, scoring 33 runs in 29 balls, including six boundaries. But it was his remarkable catch to dismiss Devon Conway, the New Zealand opener, for a duck, that set the tone for the match. He took an outstanding catch at square leg to send Conway back to the pavilion.

After the match, Mohammed Shami was named the “Player of the Match” for India’s superb performance, picking up four wickets. Shami achieved the distinction of being the first Indian bowler to take five wickets in a World Cup match.

However, Shami downplayed the fielding conditions at Dharamsala, saying, “You’ve seen how the outfield is. No complaints, it’s the same for both teams. Sometimes they play on wet outfields. Sometimes we play on dry outfields. No complaints. The better the players, the better.”

This unique and innovative approach by BCCI in acknowledging outstanding fielding performances adds an exciting new dimension to cricket awards and highlights the remarkable skills of Shreyas Iyer and the entire Indian team in the field. With such innovative initiatives, cricket fans can look forward to more exciting moments and celebrations in the future.

Dilip, the fielding coach, praised the team’s resilience after they bounced back in the first innings to claim an early advantage against New Zealand. The match saw some missed catches and a vital partnership of 159 runs between Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell.

“Dharamshala presented unique challenges for us. However, aside from a few hiccups, I believe that most of the time, we stayed ahead, thanks to our fielding and aggression. The way we came back was excellent. Well done, everyone,” Dilip expressed in a video released by BCCI.

Following this, Team India is gearing up to face defending champions England in the 29th match of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, scheduled for Sunday, October 29th, in Lucknow. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will make his return to the Indian team after missing the match against Bangladesh due to an ankle injury.

Currently, India holds the top position on the points table, with New Zealand following closely in second place. The tournament promises more exciting cricket action as these top teams vie for the coveted title.
