Breaking News: Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur to Skip Third ODI in Rajkot

Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur have unexpectedly decided not to play in the third ODI against Australia that is slated for Rajkot. Instead, they will be joining the group in Guwahati as India prepares for their ODI World Cup campaign.

More About Third ODI:

The team management has decided to rest Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur for the last ODI in Rajkot. This explosive combo will be present in Guwahati, where India will start its ODI World Cup campaign, rather than traveling to Rajkot for the third game.

With a century against Australia in the second One-Day International at Indore, Shubman Gill displayed remarkable performance. His fifth this year, it was his sixth international century. In 2023, Gill also scored hundreds against Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. He also has the distinction of scoring this year’s T20I century. Shubman Gill has 1230 runs at a strike rate of 105.03 from 20 matches in ODIs in 2023, averaging 72.35.

As an Indian cricket player playing on his home field in Mohali, Gill’s performance in the first ODI against Australia was particularly memorable. He reflected on this by stating, “I was 7 when we initially arrived in Mohali. Playing an international match in Mohali was a dream come true for me because I have seen so many games here as a spectator. I have played in a few IPL games, but having my family present while playing in an international game was something special.

The team management has been creating workload management strategies for a while. This is the reason veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were given rest in the opening two ODIs. In Rajkot, both of the seasoned campaigners will re-join the group.

Also given a rest from the second ODI was Jasprit Bumrah. He has left to spend time with his family, and the team management has offered him a brief break, the BCCI said. For the second ODI, the fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been added to the squad in place of Bumrah. For the last ODI in Rajkot, Bumrah will re-join the group.

The Indian team will have a lengthy World Cup campaign because they will play in several different cities. The management of the squad is concerned with maintaining the players’ stamina and readiness for the important ICC competition.
